'Arab Spring': The chilly cruel winter reality of Arab racism and Islamic bigotry
'Arab Spring': The chilly cruel winter reality of Arab racism and Islamic bigotry Not that ethnic racism and religious bigotry weren't rampant before the so-called "Arab spring" sprung about. But the intolerance tide seems to be only worsening, and without an Arab dictator to "hold" various factions together, vulnerability expand, risks rise.
---
RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY:
As the D.B. puts it: "Violence Against Egypt's Copts in an Intolerant Arab Spring.. The elephant in the room of the Arab Spring is now the mistreatment of minority communities—Christians and others—across the Arab world."
FPM asks: Hillary Clinton Promises to Save Egypt's Christians? ... the guise of the "Arab spring" and "people-power," all hailed and supported by the U.S.—worked for religious minorities in the Arab world?
In Feb. Diana West wrote: "Islamic bigotry kept under wraps in Egyptian uprising." Especially at the brutalization and racist rape by Arab Muslim mob in Egypt of CBS journalist L. Logan (thinking she was Jewish) and the MSM silencing the story.
In May, the New York Times reported on the growing Islamic anti-Christian attacks: "Egypt's Christians Fear Violence as Changes Embolden Islamists." That "Coptic Christians, many of whom have felt less secure since Egypt's dictator stepped down, held a sit-in May 19 in Cairo."
Explaining: The revolution has empowered the majority but also opened new questions about the protection of minority rights like freedom of religion or expression as Islamist groups step forward to lay out their agendas and test their political might.
Adding:
Around the region, Christians are also closely watching events in Syria, where as in Egypt Christians and other minorities received the protection of a secular dictator, Bashar al-Assad, now facing his own popular uprising.
Z. Baumann, in a June article, asks about Christians: "Arab Spring's losers of revolution?"
Christian Persecution monitor (Aug.) "Common Fear, Opposing Reactions Define Differences between Christians in Egypt and Syria."
Later on, in that month:
Egyptian Islamic Jihad Official: If We Come To Power We Will Launch Islamic Conquest To Instate Sharia and "Exterminate" Christians If They Cause Problems.
The Copts Association and Christian of Iraq said (Sep.) The Arab Spring and Christian Persecution... Throughout the region, Christians have been targeted by Muslim mobs ... that the Arab Spring is posing a threat to Christian minorities throughout the Middle East.
As the Arab Islamic mob (Sep.) attacked the Israeli embassy in Cairo, they were justifiably described by a Western journalist. "They Were Animals." Still think, the Arab-Israeli conflict is about "land...?"

ETHNIC RACISM
Introduction:
From a 2006 article in The Guardian: "The race taboo,": The existence of racist attitudes within Arab countries is often denied, resulting in scandalous displays of prejudice against certain ethnic groups. The Arab countries, mostly are in denial. The A to Z of ethnic and religious groups in the Middle East embraces Alawites, Armenians, Assyrians, Baha'is, Berbers, Chaldeans, Copts, Druzes, Ibadis, Ismailis, Jews, Kurds, Maronites, Sahrawis, Tuareq, Turkmen, Yazidis and Zaidis (by no means an exhaustive list), and yet serious discussion of ethnic/religious diversity and its place in society is a long-standing taboo.
If the existence of non-Arab or non-Muslim groups is acknowledged at all, it is usually only to declare how wonderfully everyone gets along.
In April this year, indingenous group who suffer discrimination: Tunisia's Berbers test the limits of country's newfound freedoms
Probably most noted group of non-Arabs to suffer from Arab racism are blacks.
Already in March, Rebels execute black immigrants while forces kidnap others... Therefore the Arab racism of Libyan rebels constitute crimes against humanity.
From NER, March 10 "Arab Racism On Display In Libya."
From a Mar 5, 2011 "Black Africans Caught in Libyan Arab Racism" That Libyan rebels, overwhelmingly racist and anti-African...
The New York Times reported in September: "Libyans Turn Wrath on Dark-Skinned Migrants," That As rebel leaders pleaded with their fighters to avoid taking revenge against "brother Libyans," many rebels were turning their wrath against migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, imprisoning hundreds for the crime of fighting as "mercenaries" for Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi without any evidence except the color of their skin.
Explaining the scapefoating of black: Still, in a country with a long history of racist violence, it has become an article of faith among supporters of the Libyan rebels that African mercenaries pervaded the loyalists' ranks. And since Colonel Qaddafi's fall from power, the hunting down of people suspected of being mercenaries has become a major preoccupation.
Even the Arab-based Arab-biased al-Jazeera reported testimonies of "how race-based discrimination and violence, long an issue in Libya, had been inflamed by the war."
From the HuffingtonPost, September "The Great Taboo: Arab Racism," With the liberation of Libya come less happy reports from Amnesty and Physicians for Human Rights of rebels slaughtering scores of black Africans, believing they were all pro-Gaddafi mercenaries. While the dictator did hire some fighters from sub-Saharan Africa, the vast majority of black Africans in Libya are entirely innocent immigrants, one million of whom are guest workers.
Tarek Fatah (October) on "The future of the Arab Spring"
I'm very pessimistic about the Arab world... I think there will be far more chaos than Obama can manage. There's nothing there. The Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamists have billions of dollars. The jean-clad, western secularists have to worry about their girlfriends, and their New York Yankee hats and every silly stuff, and Twitter and Facebook. While the real world is moving on. All these guys will come back to New York, and Boston, and Toronto and say, 'Oh, we went there for sabbatical and had fun in Cairo.' While the Muslim Brotherhood is deeply entrenched. Not a single black face in all of Arab Spring. What does it say to you? 20% of the Arab population is black, but you can't see a single black face. It's a completely racist movement. It says non-Arabs in the Arab Spring have no rights. IF you're Bangladeshi, Filipino, Indonesian…you have absolutely no rights. This is worse Apartheid. That's why Africans are fleeing Libya, dying in the Mediterranean, to get to Italy or to Israel.
On the plight of Africans in Arab Egypt, UNHCR (October) says no more resettlement for refugees from Libya in Egypt... For the Africans now stranded in Egypt, Ali, a Somali refugee who has been waiting for nearly a decade to be relocated, he warns that there will be an upsurge in anti-Africanism and racism toward the refugees who are barred from work and education in the country.
Black activists in October decried: "Why The New York Times Ignored Libya Ethnic Cleansing... Not Genocide If "Our Team" Commits the Crime."
When a major newspaper supports so-called "rebels," even though the signs are abundant from the very beginning that they comprise sadistic killers, radical Islamists, and anti-Black racists, what does it do at the end of the day, when the evidence can't be hidden anymore that the so-called "liberators" are in fact genocidal killers?
[...] Complicity is widely shared. Not even the first African American president of the United States, Barack Obama, has condemned the targeted killings of Black Libyans. Not a word of condemnation from Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, who is in Tripoli today. Nothing from United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon and the ICC's Ocampo.
Carina Ray (Sep.): "Gaddafi and the Mercenary Myth." The mistreatment and murder of blacks by rebel forces in Libya is an extension of long-simmering anti-immigrant sentiments that are directed at sub-Saharan Africans. Xenophobia and racism are both at play here.
In that month: Persecution of Black Libyans draws international outcry
Workers World. They must protest the racist persecution of Black Libyans and all Africans and demand that it stop immediately.
A Sep. report: "Poverty Skyrockets in the World's Poorest Country Due to Racial Violence After Revolution in Neighboring Libya."
Niger is the poorest country in Africa and the world: Many of its people go hungry every day, many children die before their fifth birthday, and countless thousands have died in past famines. Now, it's getting much poorer, as black migrant workers from Niger are forced to leave neighboring Libya because of the color of their skin in the aftermath of the revolution there. Workers used to send money home to Niger from Libya, enabling impoverished family members to survive. But now these workers have been forced to leave Libya, where some black migrant workers were lynched, and many others have been rounded up and jailed in appalling conditions after being falsely accused of being mercenaries for the brutal, recently-ousted dictator Muammar el-Qaddafi...
Still, in a country with a long history of racist violence, it has become an article of faith among supporters of the Libyan rebels that African mercenaries...

The decision to pursue an in-depth investigation of this subject was prompted by the anti-Semitic and otherwise racist speech that Farrakhan's aide, Khallid Muhammad, gave at Kean College in New Jersey. The story was newsworthy in large part because it came just as some mainstream black groups were attempting to form a constructive alliance with Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. News of the speech loosed a flash flood of reportage and commentary on the subject, and at that time we began the kind of weeks-long investigation a cover story like this one requires. At the same time, we published an article on one telling aspect of the larger story: the fact that some black leaders were offended when whites called on them to denounce racism in other black leaders...

Shouting pickets protest attention to Farrakhan - Baltimore Sun
June 13, 1994 By Ivan Penn Sun Staff Writer
A boisterous group of 60 people, marching and waving picket signs, voiced its opposition yesterday to the NAACP for inviting Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan to its summit of African-American community leaders.
Spurred on by Jewish activists and a former NAACP assistant director, the crowd chanted slogans, including "Don't embrace the racist; Farrakhan is a racist," outside the headquarters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

CLEAVER: I think the Million Man March will go down in history as the defining episode for a generation of people and I know Minister Farrakhan personally and have known him for years. And my overall decision on Farrakhan is that the Afro-American people are not going to follow him anywhere and as General Colin Powell said in his famous commencement address at Howard University, he said that after what we've been through and after coming this far we cannot afford to take a detour through the swamps of hatred and that is the Achilles heel of Farrakhan is that the doctrine of the Nation of Islam is a racist doctrine and the Afro-American people are not racist people. We are anti-racist people.

And
The Nation of Islam (NOI)The Nation Of Islam was founded by W D Fahd, who claimed to be a prophet and who held strong anti-white views.
Elijah Muhammad was of the first leaders of the group. He assisted in the development of NOI's bizarre ideology that black people originated from the Moon whilst whites were the result of a botched experiment by a mad scientist (Searchlight December 1997).
Louis Farrakhan was previously known as Louis Eugene Walcott.
Joined the Nation of Islam (NOI) in 1955 and by the end of 1960 was a minister at the Nation's Boston mosque.
Farrakhan was a protege of Malcolm X describing him as "the father he never had".
However following Malcolm's departure from NOI Farrakhan said"…Such a man as Malcolm is worthy of death." According To HQ magazine on the February 21 1965 three NOI gunmen murdered Malcolm X. Furthermore, Farrakhan was allegedly accused by the widow of Malcolm X that he was involved in her husband's murder.
Farrakhan's racist comments and ideologies date back to 1972 where he made his anti-Semitic and black separatist views known in a Black Muslim publication, "Muhammed Speaks".
He claimed that "Since the Jews are in control of the mass media, newspapers, television, radio, we knew then that we could begin to look for a concerted attack on Nation of Islam though the mass media." (Muhammed Speaks 12 May 1972)
Whites, Jews, Catholics and gays are subject to attack as well as blacks that work within the ‘white system’. At a rally in 1985 Farrakhan decried "…we will tar and feather them" and "We will hang them from the highest limb, we will chop off their heads and roll them down the streets."
NOI’s Association with Far-Right Groups
NOI's extremism of views has led to a series of bizarre allegiances with other far right contemporise that included the Klu Klux Klan and neo-Nazi type organisations.
In early 1961 NOI and the KKK had a meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in the US. Both Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X a NOI leader met KKK dignitaries. The two groups came to the joint opinion that parts of South Carolina and Georgia in the United States should become a black homeland with KKK holding state power. (Searchlight December 1997).
Louis Farrakhan has shared a platform at an NOI meeting with members of the American Nazi Party in full dress regalia seated as honoured guests. The NOI publicly accepted donations from a former KKK leader who went on to lead the White Aryan Resistance.
The NOI also holds affiliation with the far-right National Front in Britain. In 1988 the NOI used the Front to import and distribute NOI's "The Final Call" in Britain.
The NOI are also stockists of racist literature, including the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the conspiracy laden The Jews And Their Lies, as well as The Secret relationship between the Blacks and the Jews whose premise is that Jews were solely responsible for the killing of 100,000,000 blacks during the slave trade. The group also publishes the notorious anti-Semitic forgery the Protocols of The Elders Of Zion.
The Nation Of Islam operates numerous security contracts (through its security arm the Fruits of Islam) worth millions of dollars, publishes "The Final Call" as well provides numerous other extremist literature. The groups also sells hair and beauty products and runs chains of health clinics.

-Khalid Abdul Muhammad, Baltimore, MD, February 19, 1994

What is the Nation of Islam?
Submitted on 23 March, 2006 - 15:38
How to beat the racists
The Nation of Islam (NoI) was founded in 1930 as a peculiar fusion of Islam and a conservative variant of black nationalism.
The NoI considered whites to be devils and that the answer to American racism was the promotion of black business, racial separation and the creation of a black state.
Black historian Manning Marable describes how the NoI came to be “re-founded" by Louis Farrakhan in 1981:
“[In the 1970s] Most black radicals, influenced heavily by Malcolm X's public separation from and feud with the Nation in 1964-65, still viewed the organisation with a great deal of scepticism.
“… [Elijah] Muhammad [NoI leader] attempted to establish closer links with the US government and other foreign interests in an effort to resolve his group's ongoing political and economic troubles. By making peace with Chicago's political boss, Richard Daley, the Nation was able to eliminate most of the police surveillance and harassment against the sect.
“Imitating the FBI, Nation of Islam members in Philadelphia destroyed that city's Black Panther Party headquarters in retaliation for the group's public advocacy of Malcolm X's ideas.
“In 1972, Muhammad negotiated a $3 million interest-free loan from [Libyan dictator] Colonel Muamar Kadafi which was used to expand Black Muslim enterprises. Despite these gains, the Nation of Islam was still plagued by internal dissension.
“One of the Nation's most dynamic and powerful ministers, Hamaas Abdul Khaalis (Ernest McGhee) denounced the Nation as a corruption of the true faith, Sunni Islam, in 1972. Khaalis declared that Muhammad was ‘a lying deceiver' and stated that their leader ‘who inspired former dope addicts and prostitutes to monklike lives of sacrifice, discipline and hard work, was instead stealing his followers' money and leading them to hell'. For devout defenders of Muhammad, Khaalis' challenge could not remain unanswered. On 18 January 1973, at least five armed gunmen, all members of the Nation of Islam, entered Khaalis' Washington, DC, home and butchered five members of his family.
"With Muhammad's death in 1975, the leadership of the Nation of Islam passed to one of his sons, Wallace. Quickly and efficiently, Wallace Muhammad ‘Malcolmised' the [sect … a] mixture of racial mythology and religious dogma promulgated by Elijah Muhammad was abandoned in favour of the orthodox teachings of Islam; whites were permitted to attend services and in some instances even joined the group…
“Yet these dramatic changes did not occur without more dissension. Louis Farrakhan, perhaps the most charismatic minister in the Nation after the departure of Malcolm X, had quietly left the Nation by 1978. In February 1981, Farrakhan announced the creation of the ‘old’ NoI under his direction, following the tenets of Elijah Muhammad. Several thousand blacks soon flocked to Farrakhan’s group." (Race Reform and Rebellion, p 177-8)
The following Farrakhan has built up since 1978 is particularly suprising because of the part he played in the NoI’s feud with Malcolm X. In December 1964, writing as Louis X, Farrakhan wrote, “Malcolm shall not escape… Malcolm is worthy of death." Malcolm was shot down two months later in February 1965.
In 1994, Malcolm’s widow, Betty Shabazz, was asked on WNBC-TV if she thought Farrakhan had anything to do with her husband’s killing. She answered: "Of course. Yes… Nobody kept it a secret. It was a badge of honour. Everybody talked about it. Yes."
Moreover, Farrakhan’s NoI has continued Elijah Muhammad's tradition of links with the fascist right — believing that the Nazis, who also want racial separation, have something in common with the NoI.
In June 1961 a delegation of American Nazi Party members attended the NoI’s convention in Washington DC. In 1962 Nazi Party leader George Lincoln Rockwell, dressed in full Nazi regalia, declared to the NoI Chicago convention: “Elijah Muhammad is to the so-called Negro what Adolf Hitler was to the German people… Heil Hitler!"
Malcolm X, who had been ordered to represent the NoI at a meeting with the fascists in 1961, later wrote to Rockwell, “This is to warn you that I am no longer held in check from fighting white supremacists by Elijah Muhammad's separatist Black Muslim movement". (Malcolm Speaks, 1965). In 1964 Malcolm had offered to send people to the Deep South to “give the Ku Klux Klan a taste of their own medicine".
But in 1985 Farrakhan repeated Elijah Muhammad's mistakes by allowing Californian Klan leader Tom Metzger to attend an NoI rally in Los Angeles. The NoI accepted a $100 donation from this racist scumbag. Farrakhan has also declared that “Hitler was a very great man" (at a rally for Jesse Jackson, 1984).
The organisation Louis Farrakhan now leads has tacked towards the Democratic mainstream during the 1990s. It remains right-wing, anti-white and anti-Korean (some Korean people run shops in black areas in US cities) .
Farrakhan is anti-abortion, anti-gay and wants to see schools separated by sex. Some of the NoI’s meetings and rallies are closed to women.
The NoI is also profoundly anti-semitic. In the past it has distributed the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a Russian Tsarist police forgery which claims to show that a Jewish conspiracy exists to control the world. The NoI has its own “Protocols" — The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews claims that: Jews ran the African slave trade; Jews were the major owners of slaves in the US; Jews raped black women; that during Reconstruction, Jews preyed on freed black slaves. Like many anti-semitic texts the NoI claim it is based on the works of “respected Jewish authorities".
In fact the Secret Relationship is a lying mess in which facts are misrepresented and notorious anti-semites — such as Dostoyevsky — are quoted to prove a point. (In fact Jews were a very small minority of whites in the Deep South and owned, as a proportion, less slaves than other groups of whites.)
Farrakhan believes the Jews control the media and that Judaism is a “dirty religion”.
Farrakhan’s deputy, Khallid Muhammad, called Jews “bloodsuckers of the black nation".
Speaking in February 1994, Khallid Muhammad said: “God will kill my enemy… that old no-good Jew, that old impostor Jew, that old hooknose, bagel-eating, lox-eating, Johnny-come-lately perpetrating a fraud, just crawled out of the caves and hills of Europe, so-called damn J_w… I will never apologise to this bas_tard — never."
The NoI and Louis Farrakhan are bad news.

What About the Nation of Islam's Historical Ties to Fascism?
Published: February 23, 1994
It was widely reported when Louis Farrakhan, head of the Nation of Islam, suspended Khalid Abdul Muhammad, who told an audience at Kean College of New Jersey that Jews are bloodsuckers, gays are sissies, and the Pope is a cracker.
Mr. Farrakhan rebuked the manner in which Mr. Muhammad delivered his message, but Mr. Farrakhan reaffirmed the "truths" of that message! Reporters speculate if this is a repudiation of bigotry or not. But they are silent about the history of the Nation of Islam on these subjects.
In the early 1960's, at a large gathering of the Nation of Islam, the featured speaker was Elijah Muhammad, its leader. But the speaker just before him, addressing Elijah Muhammad's followers, was George Lincoln Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi Party.
In the early 1960's Malcolm X, as a Nation of Islam spokesman, mocked the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement. At the height of civil rights protest Malcolm traveled to the South, not to partake in civil rights protest, but to negotiate with leaders of the Ku Klux Klan on how to thwart the struggle for civil rights. This scene is omitted from Spike Lee's film and from the recent PBS documentary on Malcolm X.

Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam - PublicEye.org - The ...Many of the key elements of a fascist political movement are present in the NOI, including theories of racial nationalism, racial superiority, organic leadership, and the appropriateness of authoritarian measures in support of public safety and security. The Fruit of Islam who surround Farrakhan as bodyguards reflect an attachment to military trappings, and help build a cult of personality around Minister Farrakhan himself. The demagoguery of Farrakhan and some of his key lieutenants periodically strays into scapegoating of Jews as evil conspirators. And if congruence with key elements of fascism is not alone persuasive, consider that members of the Nation of Islam have at times cooperated with white U.S. fascists around a shared interest in racial separatism and racial nationalism... dangerous... are the themes of authoritarianism and racial nationalism which underlie racial organicism. Reed warns that "because of his organization and ideology, however, Farrakhan more than his predecessors throws into relief the dangerous, fascistic presumptions inscribed at the foundation of that model."

ADVOCATING GENOCIDE
Khalid Abdul Muhammad
In recent years, the words and deeds of Khalid Abdul Muhammad have been the focus of increasing public attention. A former national spokesman for the Nation of Islam (NOI), Muhammad's outspoken rhetoric is exceedingly confrontational. His supporters seem to view his hateful diatribes as expressions of rage that traditional Black leaders are unable or unwilling to deliver; however, his numerous appearances at universities and rallies have proven to be little more than a platform for his virulent anti-Semitism and racism.
By 1985, Muhammad had become one of Minister Louis Farrakhan's most trusted advisors in the Nation of Islam. He accompanied Farrakhan on fund-raising trips to Libya, where he became well acquainted with Muammar el-Qaddafi. Muhammad's dedication to Farrakhan and to the racist message of the NOI eventually secured him the title of national spokesman.
The start of Muhammad's notoriety was marked by a speech at New Jersey's Kean College in November 1993. He referred to Jews as "bloodsuckers," called for the genocide of white people, and demeaned both Pope John Paul II and homosexuals.

Lesson in hypocrisy Massive overreaction by Americans and their allies over WikiLeaks detailshttp://www.torontosun.com/comment/columnists/michael_coren/2010/12/03/16419351.htmlBy MICHAEL COREN. QMI Agency

The WikiLeaks revelations we have been waiting for turned out to be little more than the obvious, the banal, the mildly interesting and the confirmation of what we assumed to be the case in the first place.
We were told intelligence agencies gather information on other countries, that the Americans think Canadians lack self-esteem and are anti-American, that the Europeans can be smug, and Prince Andrew can be slightly rude.
Well I never. What is more interesting about the whole episode is the massive overreaction of the Americans and their allies, and also why a neurotic, sexually confused loner and self-confessed nerd was allowed access to classified information in the U.S. military, when everything about him screamed “untrustworthy, and potential spy.”
Also, why the New York Times, among others, refused to print the climategate leaks as they were “gathered illegally,” but so relished printing the WikiLeaks information.
The answer, of course, is as apparent as a liberal’s hypocrisy. The climategate e-mails showed some of the zealots behind the global warming industry to be dishonest and malicious, and so discredited the left.
The WikiLeaks material embarrasses the military, Washington, and those considered more hawkish.
The crass double standards of the New York Times and their comrades aside, one aspect of the story that deserves more attention is the desire of the King of Saudi Arabia for the West to bomb Iran.
Again, this should come as no surprise to anybody who understands the Middle East but it does confirm the genuine, rather than the Lawrence of Arabia/George Galloway fantasies, about the region.
There is no such thing as Arab brotherhood and Muslim brotherhood, and no concern for the Palestinians beyond how they can be used as a stick to bash the Jews and the West. The most long-lasting and sadistic empire within the Islamic world was the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Ottomans were and are Muslim.
Most of the victims of Muslim terror are other Muslims, and there is no racism like the racism of an Arab Muslim towards a Pakistani Muslim, a Persian Muslim towards an Arab Muslim, and a Turk towards an Arab or a Pakistani. As for Middle Eastern Muslim views on black Muslims, don’t even ask.
We in the non-Islamic world beat ourselves up for being insensitive, when we are models of equality and racial and religious tolerance. The Saudis want nothing more than their Sunni country to be protected against Shiite Iranians, and in this they are joined by the Egyptians, the Jordanians and the Gulf states. The Syrians also detest the Iranians, but they are too geographically close to them to admit this and so play a very careful game.
Informed sources claim the Saudis have already told Israel their air defence systems will be turned off at certain times, and this isn’t so they can do repair work! The Palestinians? Everyone treats them badly, but only Israel is blamed.
WikiLeaks doesn’t really change very much at all, but perhaps it does give us a glimpse into the world behind the screams and banners of the usual protesters and moaners.

Hate speech and racism: Turkey’s ‘untouchables’ on the rise
[...]
Meanwhile, a couple of days before the investigation, there was another rather remarkable development in Eskişehir, not far from Ankara. Niyazi Çapa, chairman of the Federation of Osmangazi Culture Associations, called a news conference with some members and friends. Wearing local outfits, they posed for pictures. In those pictures, you see people holding placards on which the following slogans were written: "No Armenians and Jews are allowed through this door" and "It is free for dogs to enter." Çapa proudly declared, "We have now shown that dogs are more valuable than them."
A couple of weeks ago, Canan Arıtman, a deputy of the "social democratic" Republican People's Party (CHP) entered the very same ground. Furious over President Abdullah Gül's reaction to the public apology campaign as an "example of free speech," she had alleged that one of Gül's grandparents was actually Armenian.
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputy Zeyid Aslan said the following about Jews when commenting on Gaza: "Those who begged for mercy before humankind for the suppression they suffered have now become barbarians. If history repeats itself tomorrow, with what face will they come and beg for mercy?"
These three examples are the most spectacular incidents that emerged recently. If one goes through the press in Turkey, one would easily find cases of racism and hate speech, particularly in response to the deplorable carnage and suffering in Gaza. These are the cases in which there is no longer a distinction between criticizing and condemning Israel's acts and placing Jews on the firing line.
Racism and hate speech is -- albeit rather vaguely -- defined and criminalized in the TCK. Article 216 exists for the prosecutors to act upon. But it is treated as a frozen article that nobody cares or thinks about.

Can Turkey kick football racism out of the stadiums?
ISTANBUL - While European football is trying to prevent racism, Turkey mostly tends to wash its hands of it and see the glass as half full. It may be true that there is little racism about skin color, but with recent abusive remarks toward Israeli player Pini Balili and former referee Oğuz Sarvan, Turkish football hardly has the cleanest record.
With football’s top countries under scrutiny for racism, the question arises in Turkey as well, whether the country is immune or simply deaf, dumb and blind to the problem.
If you ask that question to fans, footballers or administrators of the game, you will probably hear that there is no danger of racism in Turkish football, but is there really?
In 2006, Turkish sports journalists were trying to hype up stories of Fenerbahçe signing world-class footballer Samuel Eto’o. Maybe there was no official offer from Fener to the striker’s club Barcelona, but who cares? Turkish journalists, who can match their Western tabloid counterparts in fake news and being paid for their imagination, were fast to create the link and made an open call to Eto’o.
"He is believed to be warming to the idea of coming to Turkey, as there is no racism to bother him here," the papers wrote without citing any resources.
Eto’o famously walked off the pitch after Real Zaragoza fans shouted constant racist slogans at him during a La Liga game on Feb. 25, 2006. Yes, he was fed up with racism, but was it really true that Turkey was clean in that regard? This is only an illusion, says sports writer İbrahim Altınsay.
"There are some cliches in Turkey," said Altınsay at a panel titled "Racism in Sports" organized by the Stop Racism platform. "The sentence, ’There is no racism in Turkey,’ is one of those," he said. A columnist at daily Radikal, Altınsay believes the clich is a result of the word "racism" being misleading in Turkish.
"When people hear the word ’racism,’ they only think about ethnicity," he said. "A more comprehensive word should be used, such as discrimination. There is discrimination toward women, homosexuals, Armenians, Kurds, Alevis and others. It's the ’us and them’ type of discrimination."
’We are all black’
If we are limiting the subject to discrimination by skin color, it may be true that there are no racist tendencies in Turkey. Ask any football fan and they will remember how Beşiktaş fans stood up for their Pascal Nouma. One week after referee Ali Aydın referred to the French striker as "the black player," the İnönü Stadium was filled with banners that read, "Hepimiz zenciyiz," which means, "We are all black."
The slogan quickly became a catchphrase in social life and was used to support anyone suffering from discrimination, most famously in protests of the assassination of the Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink. Banners reading, "We are all Armenians" in Turkish and Armenian were raised in the air during the rallies.
But it may be deceptive as well, as racism is more than just skin deep.
For example, a debate sparked when Gençlerbirliği coach Samet Aybaba made a notorious comment about his player, Abdel Zaher El Saka, "This country prefers an Arab over me." Most recently, Sivasspor’s Israeli striker Pini Balili has been the subject of racially abusive remarks.
During the gameagainst Sivas, Galatasaray fans yelled "damn Israel" in their chants before cursing at Balili.
Another columnist at Radikal, Bağış Erten, believes football’s dynamics differ from the rest of society.
"When Israeli Haim Revivo played for Fenerbahçe there were such protests," said Erten. "After his move to Galatasaray, there were similar slogans, only coming from the other side."
"If Balili was playing for Galatasaray, then the fans and team would try to protect him and the other teams would start to shout racist slogans," Erten said.
Football and genocide
On a heavier note, following claims of injustice toward their team, Trabzonspor supporters threatened the Central Refereeing Committee, or MHK, Chairman Oğuz Sarvan with the slogan, "Armenian Oğuz, genocide for you!"
"Whatever is in the society is reproduced in stadiums and sometimes in a more violent way," said Altınsay. "And some things said remain in use long after the game."
Erten was shocked to see there were no legal investigations for that remark, let alone charging those who were responsible.
Turkish Football Federation regulations are broad enough to kick racism out of the game but despite Chairman Mahmut Özgener’s warning to avoid racist remarks in protests, no official investigations were made.
"It is in the books. There are enough rules to penalize a team for racist abuse, but nothing has happened yet," said Erten.
Racist remarks are often made just to annoy the other team, but it is still dangerous. Sivas coach Bülent Uygun tried to protect Balili by trying to show that he is "one of us." But Altınsay said the move was "even worse," as if a foreign player canonly continue his life only by proving he is like a Turk. "The fact is discrimination has become an inseparable part of sports," said Altınsay.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, according to Erten, due to the "immunity" of football.
"Tax fraud is immoral, but when clubs do it, fans accept it," he said. "Or you get beaten by police if you want a workers’ union, but everybody admires if you stand up to say there should be a union for footballers."
And that can be the starting point. Just like Turkish people started to discuss the notion of nationality after Marco Aurelio of Brazilian descent was granted Turkish citizenship and became eligible to play for the national team.
And football can be a strange metaphor for life, when 11 people get to play for the same target, no matter how different they are.
"Just like society, football is a ground where differences live among each other," said Altınsay. "Maybe there should be a team with a homosexual goalkeeper, Armenian right back, Kurdish and Alevi center backs, etc. The problem could be solved." [2008]

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which monitors hate activity globally, listed the New Black Panther Party as among the most active and tough-talking of black-separatist groups.
Black Hebrews also have grown increasingly active in recent years, according to the SPLC, especially in Philadelphia, where robed street preachers shout out their beliefs daily near City Hall, the Convention Center, Germantown Avenue and other heavily trafficked areas.
Followers of the movement claim that African-Americans are God’s true chosen people because they, not the people traditionally known as Jews, are the real descendants of the biblical Hebrews.
Their views, while often just as extreme, tend to be couched in religious rhetoric about “Edomites” (the descendants of Esau) and such terms that barely slow the stride of most passers-by.
But Shabazz is more blunt in his views:
* On whites: “I’m about the total destruction of white people. I’m about the total liberation of black people. I hate white people. I hate my enemy. . . .”
* On Jews: “I don’t care how much they try to promote the Jewish Holocaust. The African people have suffered a hell of a cost. . . . ”
* On Barack Obama and voting: “He’s a puppet on a string. I don’t support no black man running for white politics. I will not vote for who will be the next slavemaster.” Besides, he added, Obama is “a Negro who doesn’t even support reparations for black people in America.”

Malik Zulu Shabazz
Born Paris Lewis, Malik Shabazz has been involved in increasingly radical Black Muslim politics since the early 1990s and now leads the violently anti-Semitic New Black Panther Party.
A graduate of Howard University and its law school, Shabazz early on went to work as a campaign aide and then spokesman for Marion Barry, the three-term Washington, D.C., mayor implicated in a cocaine sting in 1990. (At around the same time, in 1989, Shabazz was part of the Defiant Giants rap group, where he called himself Zulu King Paris and helped cut an album called "Rise, Black Man, Rise.")
Shabazz then signed up with the black supremacist Nation of Islam and played a key role organizing and promoting that group's 1995 Million Man March, telling one group of high school students that "America should be glad that every black man is not on a killing spree."
Another Nation official, Khalid Abdul Muhammad, who had been a key deputy of Nation leader Louis Farrakhan, moved away from the Nation during this period and began associating with the New Black Panther Party, which was formed from small groups in Milwaukee and Dallas that began operating around 1990.
By about 1997, Shabazz had followed his mentor Muhammad — who by now was famous for vicious tirades against whites, Jews, Catholics and homosexuals — into the New Panthers, rising to become the party's chief spokesman.
"We will never bow down to the white, Jewish, Zionist onslaught," Shabazz said around this time. Muhammad, Shabazz added with evident delight, was the man "who gives the white man nightmares ... who makes the Jews pee in their pants at night."
Remarkably, in 1998, Shabazz was named "Young Lawyer of the Year" by the National Bar Association, the leading black lawyers' association. The same year, he ran unsuccessfully for the Washington, D.C., city council. Also in 1998, Shabazz co-organized a Panther takeoff on the Nation's marches, leading a much smaller Million Youth March in Harlem, N.Y., that ended in clashes with police.
When Muhammad died unexpectedly in February 2001, Shabazz took over the New Panthers and moved its headquarters from New York to Washington. He began to build the group up by traveling around the country — to Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., and Decatur, Ala., among other places — to protest police brutality.
And while not as incendiary as Muhammad had been, he made similarly strident remarks. In 2001, for instance, he told Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes" show that he was not anti-Semitic. He had many Hebrew friends, he said, but they "happen to be black." (He was referring to the belief of some black nationalists that they, not the Jews, are the real Hebrews of the Bible.)
The next year, Shabazz traveled to Georgia to show his support for Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, the former H. Rap Brown, who was ultimately convicted of murdering a black sheriff's deputy in Georgia. In early 2003, Shabazz organized another activist group, Black Lawyers for Justice, and also came out with another rap album, featuring parts of his speeches and entitled "Amerikkka's Most Hated," that harshly attacked the Bush administration.
On Sept. 6, Shabazz's Panthers organized a Second Million Youth March — this time in Brooklyn, N.Y. Though the Panthers said they expected to draw 20,000, fewer than 1,000 marchers actually turned out.

Minister King Samir Shabazz, aka Maurice Heath...
"You want freedom? You're gonna have to kill some crackers! You're gonna have to kill some of their babies!"
Those were the words of Minister King Samir Shabazz, also known as Maurice Heath, the New Black Panther Party's Philadelphia leader.
Shabazz is the same man the Obama administration Department of Justice refused to prosecute after he was filmed on Election Day 2008 with Jerry Jackson wearing paramilitary uniforms, carrying a nightstick and blocking a doorway to a polling location to intimidate voters.
The following YouTube video posted by Naked Emperor News shows his statements during a National Geographic special on the New Black Panthers:
"I hate white people – all of them! Every last iota of a cracker, I hate 'em," Shabazz shouts into a megaphone on a crowded sidewalk. "Through South Street with white, dirty, cracker whore [expletive] on our arms. And we call ourselves black men with African garb on."
Then Shabazz spotted a black man embracing a white woman.
"What the hell is wrong with you, black man?" he shouted into his megaphone. "You [inaudible] with a white girl on your damn arm!
"You want freedom? You're gonna have to kill some crackers! You're gonna have to kill some of their babies!"
In a 2008 interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sabazz said, "I'm about the total destruction of white people. I'm about the total liberation of black people. I hate white people. I hate my enemy. ..."
National Geographic describes the New Black Panther Party as "a militant hate group headquartered in Washington, D.C., that seeks to redefine the black struggle for equality and demand liberation from what it sees as white supremacy."

In the video clip above... New Black Panther Party member Minister King Samir Shabazz is shown intimidating voters with racial epithets. In another clip, he is shown screaming at individuals saying things like:
"I hate white people. All of them. Every last iota of a cracker I hate him...white, dirty cracker whores...you're going to have to kill some crackers. You're going to have to kill some of their babies."
The individual standing next to Mr. Shabazz is Jerry Jackson. Very little has been mentioned about him, but last year, I posted images from Mr. Jackson's MySpace page (before his MySpace page was pulled offline) which shows Mr. Jackson to be just as vitriolic as Mr. Shabazz. Here is a sampling of what was on Mr. Jackson's page (**WARNING: OFFENSIVE CONTENT)

Cracker History 101
By JANE GILVARY
BY NOW, you probably know about the videos of the New Black Panther Party's angry Philadelphia leader, King Samir Shabazz, standing outside a Philadelphia polling place on Election Day 2008 holding a nightstick and wearing militia-style clothing while claiming to be "security."
Now, more recent videos of Shabazz have surfaced in which he states, "I hate white people. All of them. Every last iota of a cracka, I hate him." At a South Street festival, he shrieks into a mike: "You want freedom . . . you gonna have to kill some crackers. You gonna have to kill some of their babies."
If Shabazz were aware of all of the great things some "crackers" actually did to help end slavery and the oppression of blacks in the U.S. and to help them get the civil rights they deserved, he might not be so angry. But I can forgive him because he's a victim of revisionist history and hate-group rhetoric - seemingly ignorant of the efforts of white individuals to rid this society of discrimination, prejudice and racism.

In the wake of Adams' expose on how the Obama Justice Department abandoned judgments against the Black Panther bullies for the sake of racial politics, a shocking video clip of one of the lead defendants in the Philadelphia voter-intimidation case resurfaced on the Internet. It shows King Samir Shabazz during a 2009 National Geographic documentary interview spewing:
"You want freedom? You're gonna have to kill some crackers! You're gonna have to kill some of their babies!"
These death threats and white-bashing diatribes are nothing new. Last August, I reported on a sign on display outside New Black Panther defendant (and elected member of Philadelphia's 14th Ward Democratic Committee) Jerry Jackson's home. It reads: "COLORED ONLY: No Whites Allowed." In July 2009, I interviewed poll watcher Christopher Hill, whom Shabazz and Jackson called "cracker" several times while Shabazz brandished his baton.

The NBPP is a controversial black extremist party whose leaders are notorious for their racist statements and for leading anti-white activism. Malik Zulu Shabazz, NBPP national chairman, who has given scores of speeches condemning "white men" and Jews, confirmed his organization's endorsement of Obama in a recent interview with WND.
"I think the way Obama responded to the attack on him and the attempt to sabotage his campaign shows true leadership and character. He had a chance to denounce his pastor and he didn't fall for the bait. He stood up and addressed real issues of racial discord," stated Shabazz.
Shabazz boasted he met Obama last March when the politician attended the 42nd anniversary of the voting rights marches in Selma, Ala.
"I have nothing but respect for Obama and for his pastor," said Shabazz, referring to Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor of nearly 20 years.
It is Wright's racially charged and anti-Israel remarks that were widely circulated this month, landing the presidential candidate in hot water and prompting Obama to deliver a major race speech in which he condemned Wright's comments but not the pastor himself.
Speaking to WND, Shabazz referred to Obama as a man with a "Muslim background, a man of color."
Shabazz's NBPP's official platform states "white man has kept us deaf, dumb and blind," refers to the "white racist government of America," demands black people be exempt from military service and uses the word "Jew" repeatedly in quotation marks.
Shabazz has led racially divisive protests and conferences, such as the 1998 Million Youth March in which a few thousand Harlem youths reportedly were called upon to scuffle with police officers and speakers demanded the extermination of whites in South Africa.
The NBPP chairman was quoted at a May 2007 protest against the 400-year celebration of the settlement of Jamestown, Va., stating, "When the white man came here, you should have left him to die."
He claimed Jews engaged in an "African holocaust," and he has promoted the anti-Semitic urban legend that 4,000 Israelis fled the World Trade Center just prior to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
When Shabazz was denied entry to Canada last May while trying to speak at a black action event, he blamed Jewish groups and claimed Canada "is run from Israel."
Canadian officials justified the action stating he has an "anti-Semitic" and "anti-police" record, but some reports blamed what was termed a minor criminal history for the decision to deny him entry.
He similarly blamed Jews for then-New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani's initial decision, later rescinded, against granting a permit for the Million Youth March.
The NBPP's deceased chairman, Khallid Abdul Muhammad, a former Nation of Islam leader who was once considered Louis Farrakhan's most trusted adviser, gave speeches referring to the "white man" as the "devil" and claiming that "there is a little bit of Hitler in all white people."
In a 1993 speech condemned by the U.S. Congress and Senate, Muhammad, lionized on the NBPP site, referred to Jews as "bloodsuckers," labeled the pope a "no-good cracker" and advocated the murder of white South Africans who would not leave the nation subsequent to a 24-hour warning.
All NBPP members must memorize the group's rules, such as that no party member "can have a weapon in his possession while drunk or loaded off narcotics or weed," and no member "will commit any crimes against other party members or black people at all."
The NBPP endorses Obama on its own page of the presidential candidate's official site that allows registered users to post their own blogs.
The group labels itself on Obama's site as representing "Freedom, Justice, and Peace for all of Mankind." It links to the official NBPP website, which contains what can be arguably regarded as hate material.
The NBPP previously endorsed Obama on the presidential candidate's site, but following publicity of that endorsement, the Obama campaign removed the NBPP posting.
